Founded on March 17, 1979, Tianjin Academy of Social Sciences (TASS) is an institution directly under the supervision of Tianjin Municipal Government. Since its establishment, TASS has persisted in achieving development through innovation. It has been implementing the strategy of anchoring the institute in politics, developing the institute through scientific research, strengthening the institute with talents, managing the institute with open mind and governing the institute according to regulations. TASS strives to grow itself into an important Marxist theoretical front, a think tank of the municipal government, and a comprehensive research center of philosophy and social sciences in Tianjin. It has taken on a variety of functions such as theoretical innovation, political advice, public opinion guidance, social services, and foreign exchange. It has undertaken the important task of serving the scientific decision-making of the municipal government and serving the economic and social development of Tianjin. TASS currently has 22 internal departments（15 research institutes,one academic journal editorial department,one library and five functional offices）. There are 247 employees, of which 177 are research staff engaged in multi-disciplinary research and editing work. Among TASS researchers, 130 have advanced professional titles and 127 have doctoral degrees. Mr. Zhong Huibing is the current President and Party Secretary of TASS.
